It's a meow-racle: Lucky kitten survives being thrown from moving car on bridge

Cat's amazing: This tiny kitten survived being thrown from a moving car on the Verrazano-Narrows in New York

A little kitten used up one of its lives when it miraculously survived being thrown from a car that was crossing a bridge in New York.

The callous act took place on the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge, which towers 228 feet above the Hudson Bay. But luckily for the cat, an Animal Care and Control Officer who was driving a short distance behind saw what happened.

Paws for thought: The kitten was thankfully unhurt after the incident

Helpful truckers used their rigs to block the traffic and create a safe lane while the AC&C officer picked up the kitten, which had been thrown against the bridge's safety barrier.

It was a close call, but in the end he was taken safely to the Staten Island Care Center and given a clean bill of health by its vets.

The five-week-old feline was an immediate hit with the staff, who named him Verrazano, after the bridge.

Julie Bank, executive director of AC&C, told MyFoxny: ‘It is unthinkable that someone could do something so heartless and cruel to an animal. If AC&C wasn't crossing the bridge at that time who knows what may have happened to Verrazano.’

The incident took place last Saturday at 2.45pm and Animal Care And Control is hoping witnesses will come forward and identify the car that the kitten was thrown from.
