New feline friend: Taylor Swift has adopted a Scottish Fold kitten named Meredith



The cats are usually quite expensive; the demand for said animals usually exceeds the supply of those available.

Sorry, Selena Gomez, but Taylor Swift has found a new best friend.

The 21-year-old country singer recently tweeted a photograph of her adorable adopted kitten.

'Hanging out with my new roommate, Meredith', she wrote on her Twitter page late last week.

Her new pet is a rare breed of kitten known as the Scottish Fold, which is known for a gene mutation that makes its ear cartilage contain a fold.

According to PlusPets.com, breeders can charge as much as $1,000 for healthy, vaccinated Scottish Fold kittens.

The website adds that the cats are in such demand that prospective owners are put on waiting lists or entered in lotteries in order to obtain one.

Meredith, it would seem, already has one very famous admirer.

'OH MY GOSH. Is this kitty for real!?!?' pop star Katy Perry wrote on the country starlet's page after viewing the photo Taylor had posted.

'Yes!' Taylor responded cheerfully, adding, 'And currently chasing her own tail. PS I miss you!'

Her new pet isn't the only bright spot in the young singer's life: she was just nominated for a whopping five Country Music Awards, including the top honour of Entertainer of the Year.

'Mean', a poignant kiss-off to her critics, has also been nominated for Song of the Year.

'Getting a CMA nomination for 'Mean' was definitely a jumping-up-and-down moment for me, because this song is really close to my heart,' she told the Associated Press.

'I'm so thrilled it was nominated for Song of the Year because it's a song that I wrote on a really, really bad day, but it has produced so many happy days for me since.'

The CMA's will air live from Nashville's Bridgestone Arena on November 9.

Her nominations should serve as divine retribution for the fact the website Celebrity Jihad posted a photograph of a semi-nude woman who they claim is Taylor.

Her legal team is currently threatening to file a trademark-infringement lawsuit against the site, which features a picture of a curly-haired blonde with the caption 'Taylor Swift Topless Private Pic Leaked?'

Her lawyers have demanded that the photograph be taken down.

The site plans to retaliate against Swift and her team if they do take action.

They wrote recently: 'We here at Celebrity Jihad vow that there will be serious repercussions for Taylor Swift if she dares to follow through on her threat of a lawsuit against us.'

What a hero! David Walliams today saved a dog from drowning as he continued his Thames swim for Sport Relief

Comedian David Walliams yesterday saved a dog from drowning despite suffering from ‘Thames Tummy’ during his marathon charity swim along the river.

The Little Britain star swam to save the one-year-old labrador after hearing him splash into the water. The animal, called Vinny, was struggling to get out because it has a bad hip.

Walliams grabbed the dog by the scruff of the neck and pushed it on to the river bank near Cookham Lock in Berkshire.

Walliams said: ‘I heard a splash and looked over to be met with the face of a sweet labrador.

‘I thought he was fine, but he started to really struggle when he was getting out so I swam over and helped his owner get him out.’

Vinny’s owner Steve Outten, 23, from High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, said: ‘Vinny has hip dysplasia and was really struggling to get out just as David was swimming past.

‘He stopped, swam over and helped me get him out, which when you think what he’s going through with the swim is totally amazing. What a man.’

Talking about his brave rescue, Walliams said: 'We had a little incident with a dog on the way to Maidenhead - I heard a splash and looked over to be met with the face of a sweet Labrador. I thought he was fine, but he started to really struggle when he was getting out so I swam over and helped his owner get him out.'

Walliams' rescue mission came as he was supported by his supermodel wife Lara Stone, who followed him on a boat as he swam.

Lara even fed Walliams a cookie as he stopped for a quick snack break on his way to Bray Lock in Maidenhead.

Taking to her Twitter page this morning, Lara wrote: 'He really is flying!! SO PROUD!!!!! #thamesswim @sportrelief.'

She later added: 'Another amazing reception! So many people, too sweet, brings tears to my eyes.'

Lara wasn't the only famous face supporting Walliams today, as comedian Miranda Hart also popped along.

After making him some porridge for breakfast, Miranda was ready and waiting with a dressing gown for Walliams as he pulled himself out of the water for a quick pitstop.

Walliams added: 'It's been a great day today. My wife Lara has been in the boat cheering me on which was such a big boost to me. Miranda Hart came along and made me porridge too which was a lovely thought, but slightly less lovely in practice.'

'The currents and undertows are very dangerous so I'll need to be strong.'

Earlier this week, the former Little Britain star was struggling to continue with the challenge after contracting 'Thames Tummy' from the murky Thames water.

But speaking about his progress yesterday, Walliams said: 'It's fantastic to be half way - although if I think for too long about the fact that I've got to do as many miles again, I feel even sicker than normal.

'I'm learning to live with the stomach bug and had a more settled night. I even tucked into fish and chips, so I’m taking food on board again.'

When Andy Murray begins his Wimbledon challenge this week, Twitter followers will be hoping for some valuable insights into his form and state of mind – from his border terrier Maggie May.

She has become a star in her own right after an account on the popular social media site was set up under the name maggiemay_hem.

The page – which it is suspected is written with just a little help from Murray’s long-term girlfriend, Kim Sears, 24 – offers a dog’s-eye view of life with Murray, who is currently ranked number four in the world.

Shortly before his victory at the Queen’s Club tournament in London last week, Maggie tweeted: ‘As long as you bring home the bacon (lots of it and crispy) we’re happy.’

And in April, when Murray and Sears got a new border terrier puppy called Rusty, Maggie posted a picture of herself and the latest arrival and wrote: ‘Intruder alert! Give u deets when I have them, right now trying2figure out when he’s leaving.’

Murray, 24, took time out from his preparations for Wimbledon to join Miss Sears and their dogs for a relaxing walk in the park last week.

The couple bought Maggie in 2008 to help Murray relax away from the court and also to keep Miss Sears company while her boyfriend takes part in tournaments around the world.

The dog is thought to be named after Rod Stewart’s 1971 hit single Maggie May. Murray and Miss Sears have been ¬dating since 2006.

When they split in 2009, Miss Sears secured custody of Maggie May until the couple reconciled six months later.

You can't blame Eva Mendes for sticking close to her large dog after a crazed fan turned up on her doorstep last month.

The Other Guys star has obtained a temporary restraining order against the New York man who, according to her filing, falsely believes that he has a relationship with the actress and thinks she is 'willing to die for him.'

After stalking her since 2008, the obsessed fan turned up at Mendes' home on May 31, prompting the 37-year-old actress to take legal action, and up her canine security.

Mendes claims that John C. Luna, 39, of Melville, New York, has been harassing her for the past three years with both notes and audio recordings.

One such message is from 2009 in which he apparently talked about moving to California to find her, reported U.S. entertainment website E! Online.


Watchful eye: Hugo, a Belgian Malinois, is described by his movie star owner as, 'a really sweet attack dog.'


In the legal filing, Mendes states: 'As a result of Mr. Luna's conduct directed at me...including references in a letter that he knows I am willing to die for him, and his showing up at my house on May 31st, 2011, looking for me, I am in constant fear.'

Luna has been ordered to stay at least 100 yards away from the actress, her home, her car and anywhere she might be working. The case will go to court on June 20.
