Shocking: This CCTV footage released by the RSPCA shows an unnamed man swinging a cat by its tail outside a pub in Ramsgate, Kent
This shocking CCTV footage shows the moment a thug dances down the street while swinging a cat by its tail.
An unarmed man is seen bizarrely spinning while swinging the black cat at arms length - nearly smashing its head on the pavement.
Passers-by seem to confront the man, as he whirls past the Camden Arms pub in Ramsgate, Kent, at around 8.30am on Saturday, October 26.
Near miss: During the savage attack the cat's head nearly smashed against the pavement. The animal, named Mowgli, was left in a 'very distressed state'
Police have launched an appeal to catch the man after the pubs landlord sent the footage to the RSPCA.
The terrified cat, a two-year-old called Mowgli, eventually managed to run away and returned to its owner in a 'very distressed state'.
A spokeswoman for the RSPCA said: 'The owner lives in the basement flat of the pub and her cat has the run of the neighborhood.
'The landlord recognised Mowgli on the CCTV and he later came home in a very distressed state and has not left the flat since.
Confrontation: Two passers-by appear to speak to the man but he continues to carry out the attack on the helpless cat
Distressing: The cat narrowly avoided a wooden post surrounding a green. The owner of the cat, who lives in a flat below the pub, is said to be too upset to watch the footage
'His owner is too upset to view the footage herself, she feels it would be too distressing.'
RSPCA Inspector Caroline Doe added: 'This was a very violent, nasty attack on a cat.
'Anyone who witnessed this outside the pub must have been as shocked and appalled as we were.
'We are hoping that someone will recognise this man and come forward so we can investigate this fully.'
