Mane road: Family video captures 'smartest horse in the world' riding in back seat of car on motorway

By GAVIN ALLEN

Horse riding: Rascal the horse travels in the back of Jerry Miller's car
'Okay, there’s a car here,' Mr Potter can be heard saying in the video.

It's wasn't the average trip to the supermarket for the Potter family.

Rick, his wife Mandi and two children, Jade and Riley, were on their way to Wal-Mart at around 2.15pm on a Saturday afternoon when they spotted a horse cruising along in the back seat of a car beside them.

The astonished family couldn't believe their eyes so whipped out a video camera and captured this amazing footage on the I-75 highway between Osage City and Topeka in Kansas.

See the video below ...

'And in the back of this car, there’s a horse.'

But perhaps the Potters shouldn't have been surprised.

The horse in question, Rascal, is billed as 'the smartest horse in the world' by his showman owner.

Jerry Miller drives the 15-year-old all over Kansas in his car from their base in Pomona Lake to show off the horse's arsenal of 40 tricks.

However, without knowing anything of Rascal's particular talents, Mr Potter was stunned.

He said he first noticed the bizarre situation because his eyes were drawn to a significant amount of hair flowing from the window of the battered beige saloon car.

'I cut hair for a living,' said Mr Potter, who runs Potters Barber Shop in Osage City,
'And I look at that hair coming out of the car, and I said "Gosh, that's a lot of hair".

'I'm glad everyone enjoyed the video.

'My kids were laughing, they couldn't believe it. It was a once-in-a-lifetime situation.'

The footage raises several questions, most obviously; How did the driver manage to get a horse into the back of the car?

According to the family, the back seat appeared to have been removed to make room for the animal and it seemed comfortable.

'The horse was happy as can be, walking around there looking back and forth,' said Mr Potter.

'My wife said "Smile, horsey," and the horse turned its head.'
