Can you give Buster a home? RSPCA struck by 'unprecedented' influx of animals

Playful Ridgeback cross Buster only has three legs and is desperate to be rehomed after an animal centre reached its full capacity

They are unlikely to feature on a calendar or a television commercial promoting toilet paper.

With three legs or missing an eye, these dogs are among dozens who are desperate for a new home after spending months in a rescue centre.

Buster, an eight-year-old Rhodesian Ridgeback cross, lost a leg in an accident and has failed to find a new owner despite staff describing him as very playful and energetic.

Visitors also regularly pass by Staffordshire Bull Terrier Spikey, as they wrongly assume he has lost his eye in a fight rather than due to glaucoma.

Spikey is often passed by because he only has one eye and people assume he has been in a fight - which is not the case

And they are just two among an ‘unprecedented’ influx of unwanted pets at the RSPCA’s Blackberry Farm Animal Centre near Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire. In September alone, there were 178 arrivals.

Centre manager Julie Allen said: ‘It is depressing and heartbreaking. We can care and nurture these animals, but what they desperately need is a good kind owner to look after them.’

To adopt an animal from the centre, call 0300 123 0752.
